L.H.'s Story

A quote from your website states, “Let us be the hand that helps pull you up”,  and that’s exactly what you did for me in the Month of January 2023.

I reached out to Marietta’s House for financial assistance with my rent after I returned home from out of state to water pouring out of busted pipes and a soaked bedroom floor. I had just organized my home business and my first goal upon returning home was to get my business going. This was a huge setback for which I was not prepared. With my year off to a not so good start and the disarray around me, I found myself falling back into the downward spiral that I had fought vehemently to get out of a few years prior. However, I knew I couldn’t fall because I had boys ages 5 and 13 depending on me.

Reaching out for assistance is a vulnerable yet humbling experience that is easier for some than others. I was pleasantly surprised when I called the number given to me for assistance and I was greeted by a welcoming voice on the other end. I was prepared to hear, as I had in the past: “I’m sorry funding has run out, or You make too much, or you have to be this far in the arrears for assistance, etc… The person I spoke with (only later to find it was the Exec. Director Nikki) was not invasive, did not belittle me and explained that she too fell on hard times in the past and wanted to be in a position to help others in similar predicaments.

Thank you, Marietta’s House, your assistance will not be in vain.
